Jim Cathcart comes from the financial services industry. He has worked in banking, securities and insurance. His first job after his marriage in 1970 was as a salesperson for IDS, selling mutual funds and insurance.

Later on Jim became an agent and served as sales trainer for Massachusetts Mutual in Tulsa, Oklahoma (1977-1982). During the time he was with that agency they won the President's Trophy twice! Their sales grew from $17 million per year to over $100 million per year with no increase in the number of agents. This led to 30 other consulting/speaking assignments for Massachusetts Mutual agencies and their home office.

As a former banker Jim has worked in data processing, installment loans, and as a teller at three banks in Arkansas. Later on he became a member of the American Bankers Association Executive Development Program Faculty (five years). He authored two special reports for the ABA published in their Competitech series, one on Executive Stress, the other on Customer Service Management. He also authored a training manual on Personal Financial Planning for the U.S. Jaycees.

Jim has been featured in the Legacy of Learning on the topic of Strategic Planning for Agencies, 1979, and authored feature articles in Life Association News on three occasions, Managers Magazine (LIMRA), and the Digest of Financial Planning Ideas. In 1997, Jim was a main platform keynoter for the Million Dollar Round Table.

As a frequent speaker in the "Meetings Industry", Jim has been well known for some time among leaders in the Hospitality field.

* This conference center leader (The Woodlands, Chaminade, Northlands Inn, Lansdowne) hired Jim to train them in assessing their talents. He spent a week at their National Sales Meeting and later trained their corporate staff in "The Art of Choosing Well."

** After addressing a meeting of the General Managers in Banff Springs, Canada, Jim created a special video on Managing Customer Service for use throughout the CP system.
